Summary

Alice doesn't like animals.

Alice doesn't like animals. Not after have been bitten by a dog as a child. And the feeling is mutual: animals seem to hate Alice too. Determined to change this, Alice applies for a job at Motley Hall, a tumbledown animal sanctuary in the Pennines which caters for a variety of unloved animals: a psychotic cat, a three-legged donkey, a prickle-less hedgehog, tame foxes and even an agoraphobic owl. Just as she starts to feels as though she belongs, everything is turned upside down. The original owners of the land decide they want to destroy Motley Hall and build cheap housing on it. Can Alice stop them before it's too late? The story of a woman finding her own place to call home and a new family, even if one of them is a three-legged donkey.
